A New Award

The AIC Board of Directors have minted a new award named, after the famous Seven Sisters in the northern sky, the Pleiades Award.

Like the brilliant star cluster that inspired its name, the Pleiades accolade will be bestowed on the very brightest, most exceptional imagers who are either youthful in years or relatively young to the endeavor of astro-photography. Its purpose is to recognize and encourage those few outstanding individuals who do not yet meet the criteria for Hubble status but demonstrate skills and personal qualities that were the early hallmarks of people who subsequently received astrophotography's highest honor after many years.

Accordingly, the Advanced Imaging Conference Board of Directors is pleased to announce that we recently informed Mr.Daniel Marquardt of our unanimous decision to enthusiastically name him as the first recipient. We're also happy to report that Daniel (and his family) was delighted when he received our news! A picture of his plaque accompanies this article.

Please join with us in celebrating Daniel's talent, friendship and fond memory!

A New Conference Venue

The AIC is excited to announce that next year's conference will be held at the Four Diamond Hyatt Regency Santa Clara, located near Great America Amusement Park and just a few minutes from San Jose International Airport!

Mark your calendars for October 22- 24, 2010.

For those who have attended the Advanced Imaging Conference during the past two years, it was probably evident that we had outgrown the Doubletree Hotel- our original venue. For example, we had to pack folks into the ballroom for the 2008 meeting crowding vendors in the Showcase area and limiting the number of attendees we could accommodate. This past year, we were (reluctantly) forced to split the conference into separate up and downstairs ballrooms causing our attendees the inconvenience of moving between floors. So, earlier this year, we began to search for a new meeting location that would enable us to host the entire conference in a common area, provide additional space to meet our current needs and give us room to grow in the future.

After an exhaustive search, we selected the Hyatt Regency and are pleased to announce that AIC 2010 will boast the following features:
  • Special conference negotiated $99 per night room rate (our room rates have not changed in 4 years!);
  • Free parking for local attendees;
  • Upgraded meals throughout the conference including sit-down hot breakfasts;
  • Reasonable prices and special conference discounts at the three on-property restaurants featuring Sushi, classic American or Mediterranean cuisine;
  • Complimentary shuttle service from the San Jose International Airport to the hotel;
  • Newly appointed rooms- the hotel recently completed a $12 million renovation bringing it to Hyatt standards;
  • Quiet, restful nights- the hotel is situated far from major sources of noise pollution such as freeways;
  • Special tee times and discouted rates at the Santa Clara Golf & Tennis Club located adjacent to the hotel;
  • Conference functions will take place at the adjoining Santa Clara Convention Center
  • ...and more
Expect more information about next year's meeting including registration information, hotel reservation instructions, the agenda and your private invitation to pre-register for the conference in future AIC Newsletters!
